BLOOM ist von der in Korea geborenen und in Düsseldorf lebenden Kuratorin Ji Sue Byun im Jahr 2020 gegründet worden. Als Sinnbild für die Grundidee des Projektes steht der ereignisreiche Tag, den die Hauptfigur Leopold Bloom in „Ulysses“ (von James Joyce) mit voller Empathie erlebt hat. Der Projektraum in Flingern verfügt über eine außergewöhnliche Räumlichkeit, die aus einer treppenartigen Zugangsrampe und einer weitläufigen Fläche im Untergeschoss besteht und ideale Möglichkeiten für ortsspezifische Interventionen bietet.

BLOOM was founded by the Korean curator Ji Sue Byun in 2020. The inspiration of Bloom was to create an international network of artists. It aims at contributing to the critical discourses on cultural diversity, representation and interdisciplinary research. Located in the gallery district, the exhibition space stands out thanks to its unique atmosphere as a formal industry site. The name of the gallery refers to the central figure, Leopold Bloom, of James Joyce’s novel Ulysses, and reflects its adventurous spirit.
